Parenting Time

The State of Oregon takes the position that a child should have frequent and consistent contact with both parents. The particular schedule depends on the ages of the children, the work schedules of the parents and the health of the relationship between the parents and the children. The time a parent spends with their child is referred to as "parenting time."

A parenting plan may be set up a number of ways. For example, a detailed parenting plan may allocate the specific weekdays, weekends, holidays and school vacations, pick up and drop off times for the child, and provisions outlining transportation for the child.

If parents cannot decide themselves what is a good parenting time plan, then typically an expert is hired to do an evaluation and make a recommendation to the court as to what would be in the children’s best interests.
