Tom was born and raised in Pendleton, Oregon. In 1982, he graduated from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, with a degree in psychology. After college, Tom worked for 4 years, including 2 years as a legal assistant at this firm. Tom then attended Northwestern School of Law. During law school, he worked as a law clerk for the firm. In 1989, Tom graduated from law school, magna cum laude.

Following law school, Tom was privileged to clerk for the Honorable Mary Deits on the Oregon Court of Appeals and then for the Honorable Otto Skopil on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Tom joined the firm as an associate in 1991, and became a shareholder in 1998.

Tom's practice focuses on family law, where he has developed a reputation in the community for being straightforward and reasonable. Tom recently has been invited to become a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

In addition to practicing family law at the trial level, Tom also handles domestic relations appeals. He is a trained mediator and frequently serves as such for the Oregon Court of Appeals. Tom also has represented children in family law disputes.

Tom's personal life is busy. He is married and has three children. He is a den leader for his sonís Cub Scout Den, and has been an active adult leader for his oldest son's Boy Scout Troop. He has coached soccer and baseball for his children as well.

Tom enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, camping, backpacking, running, bicycling, softball, reading and making beer (not always in that order).

Tom does not screen his calls, so give him a call and he's likely to answer.
