Gile Downes was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. He graduated from Seattle University in 1965. He attended the University of Colorado graduate school in political science, and obtained his law degree at Stanford University in 1969. Gile and his wife Melinda are the parents of three grown children and are newly grandparents. True to his heritage, Gile still enjoys hiking, boating and the outdoors.

Gile moved to Portland in 1969 and worked for Schuler, Rankin, Myers, Walsh & Ragen until 1974. In 1974, Jensen, DeFrancq & Holmes invited him to join the firm. Gile worked closely with Theodore B. Jensen, who was then the senior member of the firm.

Gile's law practice is office oriented and focuses on real estate brokerage and transactional law, general business law and estate planning and settlement. He has extensive experience in drafting real estate agreements and forms. Gile is currently the general counsel to several residential real estate brokerage companies in the Portland metropolitan area.

Gile counsels corporations and businesses on a regular basis. Approximately one-third of his law practice is providing business advice and expertise. Gile acts as registered agent for approximately 30 corporations and limited liability companies.

Gile's expertise extends to estate planning and estate settlement. He has drafted hundreds of estate plans. He also excels in estate settlement, both probate and non-probate. He works closely with an accountant to assure tax returns are properly prepared and timely filed, and that assets are transferred correctly and efficiently. Gile specializes in the Oregon probate process, having successfully settled many estates of Oregon residents.

During his career he has authored and revised a chapter on Real Estate Licensees for the Real Property handbook series published by the Oregon State Bar for its members. For 20 years he was a registered lobbyist in Oregon, frequently representing the interests of the real estate community before both the Oregon Real Estate Agency and the Oregon Legislature.

Gile's most remarkable trait is that his secretary has been with him for over 20 years.
